AIDS in Odessa is a heart-wrenching photo essay of work by Andrea Diefenbach on an epidemic that has hit hard this port city of the Ukraine. This country holds the record for new cases of infection in Europe, and according to the artist’s statement, “Estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that as many as 160,000 individuals infected with HIV live in the city of one million.”
The AIDS in Odessa exhibition is still going on at Clamp Art on 25th Street, until June 6.
